"Thinking Outside the Box" Team Science

Grades: 1-5

Do your children think they have all the answers? Thinking Outside the Box is just the right thing for them! This class will give your child the opportunity to learn how to think on their feet and spend time in a wonderfully stimulating and creative environment while learning how to tackle challenging problems.

Using games, they will be presented a problem, lead a group brainstorm session, gather the information from her/his team, practice consensus/conflict resolution and problem solving and lead the team to a final decision.  This class will develop their creativity and critical thinking while learning team building, leadership development, problem solving, conflict resolution, trust and perseverance skills. Not to mention, give them insight into some of what you have to deal with on a daily basis at work and/or at home! Most importantly, they will have fun learning crucial concepts and skills for our new digital, increasingly complex and challenging world! Percussion

Grades: K-5

Percussion 4 Kids is a FUN and educating way for children to learn musical instruments through the study of percussion and rhythm. By taking this class, children will learn how to count rhythm, recognize music notes, and play percussion instruments to their favorite hit songs on the radio! (And many classic rock songs too!)  This percussion class gives children exciting ways to make music and discover rhythm with their very own instruments.  Understanding rhythm and basic music fundamentals is a critical stepping-stone to many other musical instruments. Our Percussion teachers have experience playing in their very own bands, and have an outstanding knowledge of many musical instruments.

In-class instruments and learning aids for your child will include: Drum Pads, Symbols, Maracas, hand-bells, Chimes, and many more!  At the end of the session, parents will be invited to come to the end of the class for a small concert showcasing the rhythms and instruments that your child has mastered in our class!  If you wish to purchase a drum pad for your child to practice outside of the Percussion 4 Kids classroom, you may do so by filling out the form sent home with your child on the first day of class.  We will process your order and bring your child his or her very own drum pad the following class!

Polar Bear Club with Mr. Herninko

Grades: 3-5

Get ready for an awesome time as Mr. Herninko rolls out some fun team and cooperative games for outdoor winter-play. Capture the Flag, All-Around the School Tag and Frozen Parachute are just some of the possibilities. So come out, bundle up and get ready to play with Smart Moves, outside, this January.

(Attention: this is an OUTDOOR class in winter time. Students will be required to come dressed for 45 minutes in cold temps).

Specifics: Students are required to have the following to participate in Smart Moves Polar Bear Club: Winter coat, ski/winter hat, gloves, snow boots (if there is snow), and ski pants/change of pants (if there’s snow). If any of these are missing, they will not be allowed to attend the class (for safety and health reasons). I also highly suggest long-johns or tights under their pants for an extra layer of protection against the cold.   We will typically go outside if the temp/wind chill is 30 degrees or above (if it’s 28 and sunny with little wind, we will probably go out). We will do indoor activities in the case of inclement weather.

If your child has asthma or another condition that is exacerbated by cold weather, please consider signing up for an indoor activity instead.
