Recorder Consort
Grades: 4-5
What in the world is a consort? It's a band...a recorder band! Come and re-visit the joy of your third grade recorder lessons in an ensemble where you may explore other voices of the instrument (alto, tenor, and bass) in a fun setting. We will learn pieces that you like, and may even write our own!

Knitting with Natalie
Grades: 3-5
In this fun after-school program, kids learn all the basics of knitting while making good friends! This program will maintain a positive learning environment while giving kids a fun life-long skill. Children will finish at least one small knitted project during the 8 weeks.

Minecraft Modding (K-2)
Grades: K-2
Students will learn to install, run, and customize mods in Minecraft. They will design custom graphics, textures, and in-game objects. The course will begin with an overview of building devices with ‘red stone’ circuits. Students will then learn to operate various mods, including Tekkit, Buildcraft, and Painterly. Using Paint.NET, students will design custom textures and character skins.

YAY! I LOVE Dessert with Ms. Burton
Grades: 2-5
There’s always room for dessert! Come join Ms. Burton to make treats that are small in size but BIG in flavor. Each week the class will take home a recipe and shareable dessert we made that day. No baking experience required! Each class will highlight a new dessert ingredient from Oreos to Red Velvet to Cake Batter to create truffles, dips, barks and more. (NO peanuts or other nuts will be used). Ms. Burton will provide all ingredients, materials and recipes. If you are concerned about allergies, please email me at Cassidy.burton@apsva.us and I will send you the ingredient lists. It’s going to be a fun and sweet class!

Glebe Band & Orchestra Camp
Grades: 4-5
Join Glebe’s own Music Department Volunteer Evan Pollack known to the kids as Mr. P. for the perfect solution to making music practice regular and fun for your child! This is a music practice club closely tied to the Glebe music program that will help band and orchestra kids become more familiar with their instruments and also help them learn what they can do and achieve when they put their minds into it. This is a supplemental program based on music and games offered to 4th and 5th graders who are in band (brass, woodwinds, and percussion) and orchestra (string instruments). It will take what they are doing with the band director, emphasize the lessons, provide practice time, and make practice fun! There will be at least two performances — one for the school and one for the parents. Evan Pollack has been teaching music in Northern VA for 27 years and has been at Glebe for the past ten.

Glebe Glee Club
Grades: Pre K-5
The Glebe Glee Club offers an exciting opportunity for students to participate in a vocal ensemble. Throughout this 8 week enrichment program your child will participate in motivating and exciting activities, learning proper vocal technique, basic music theory and rhythmic skills. At the end of the session, members of the Glee Club will perform a concert using songs they know and love from popular music. The Glee Club requires no musical or vocal experience, and no audition is necessary! All ages are welcome. This class encourages student input and is a different experience each time.

Tiny Chefs
Grades: K-2
Sweet and Savory Pies: Who can resist warm, flaky pastry, fresh from the oven? It doesn’t matter if it is bursting with sweet, fruity, creamy deliciousness or flavorful, savory goodness, either way you just want to dive in! In this session the Tiny and Gourmet Chefs will learn techniques to create the classic pastry dough needed for such staples as Pies, Tarts and Quiche, plus the delicious fillings to go inside them. They will also work with puff pastry, pizza dough and phylo as we explore recipes for Homemade Pop Tarts, Pizza Pie, Turnovers and Spanakopita. Pot Pies, Pie Pops and Empanadas…if there is pastry on it, under it or around it, we will probably be making it in this very tasty pastry camp.

Toys and Flight (Aviation Ed Stem Class)
Grades: K-2
This STEM class consists of introductory exposure to aviation through hands-on learning activities and the utilization of the standards-based AviationEd curriculum. Activities include model building and scientific investigation, which provide science and math applications. Children’s books are also incorporated to build vocabulary, allow students to make connections, and aid in comprehension. Topics such as properties of air and weather will be covered. In most events, flight simulators are available to accompany some lessons. Gliders, Helispiners, Boomerangs, and Rockets! These common toys all involve physics and aerodynamics. Learn about science through the use of toys!

Manners Matter: Etiquette and Tea with Ms. G
Grades: K-2
Ms. Gutowski cordially invites kindergarten, first, and second grade children to afternoon tea! Our time will be spent learning about pleases, thank yous, and other social graces. We will set tables, shake hands, and even eat cake! Each class will focus on one social skill, including: setting a table, eating politely, introducing oneself, writing thank you notes, and being your personal best. Please don’t wait, sign up before it’s too late!
