Rugby with Mr. Fernandez

Grades: 3-5

Come learn one of the fastest growing sports in America--Rugby.  You will learn the fundamentals of rugby--passing, kicking, attacking, and defense—along with teamwork and sportsmanship. This is a great opportunity to learn a new sport while also getting exercise.

Girls' Run Club with Ms. Pertl and Ms. Roberts

Grades: 4-5

Ms. Roberts and Ms. Pertl are excited to once again offer an after-school running club for 4th and 5th grade girls! As the weather gets cooler, we’ll enjoy the outdoors while exercising together. Each session will include a warm up, a short run at school/through the neighborhoods, a cool down, and a healthy snack. A club T-shirt will also be provided. This club is open to all fitness levels — we’ll keep it fun, social, and motivating! 

Fee:  $110, includes snacks and T-shirt

Girls' Soccer with Ms. Burton

Grades: K-2

Ms. Burton will be running a Girls-Only Soccer Club! She will work on developing basic soccer skills and playing fun games. Girls in grades K-2 are welcome to join in on the action and practice those soccer moves!

See and Sketch with Ms. Lewis and Ms. Westergren

Grades: K-2

Sketchbooks are a great way to capture and collect the amazing things you experience around you and in your imagination.  Sketchbooks are special because they are YOURS!  In See and Sketch we will make our own sketch books.  We will spend time inside and outside finding things that inspire us & responding to them in our sketchbooks.  As we develop these visual diaries, we will take time to create 2D & 3D artwork based on our sketches.

Cake Decorating with Ms. Rutherford

Grades: K-5

Have you ever wondered how to make princess castle cakes or Angry Birds cookies? If so, this class is just for you! In this class you will not only learn how to bake all sorts of yummy treats, but how to decorate them as well. Students will begin their culinary journey by learning to use piping tools on wax paper, building up to decorating cookies, and finishing with a fully decorated cake that they can take home and enjoy with their families. So, if you’re interested in making those princess castle cakes or Angry Birds cookies, sign up!

Educational Theater Company’s Main Stage Theatre Production

Grades: 2-5

**This class is held on BOTH Monday and Tuesday – Student must attend both days**

**Registration only provides entrance into the lottery for this program, and does not guarantee participation.  Final participants will be chosen via lottery and announced on September 16th**

NEW!  Please read all details:  Be a part of the Educational Theater Company's Main Stage Musical Theater Program. Students in grades 2 and older will create and perform a full-length musical. Students will be involved in all aspects of creating a musical from writing scripts, writing songs, and making costumes. Classes will meet Monday and Tuesday from 3:45pm - 5:30pm. Participants may only miss 2 classes to remain eligible to participate in the program. All participants and at least one parent or other adult must plan to attend technical workshops on Saturday, November 19 and Saturday December 3 from 9:30 - 12:00. The final week of rehearsals will be held December 5 - 7 from 5:30 - 7:30 and the performances will be held in the evening on December 8 and 9 – students must be available from 5:30 - 9:00 on both nights.  There will be a mandatory meeting describing the program in more detail immediately following Back to School Night on September 14 – one Adult must attend for their child to participate.

Band and String Club

Grades: 4-5

Join Glebe’s own Music Department Volunteer Evan Pollack known to the kids as “Mr.P.” for the perfect solution to making music practice regular and fun for your child! This is a music practice club closely tied to the Glebe music program that will help band and orchestra kids become more familiar with their instruments and also help them learn what they can do and achieve when they put their minds into it. This is a supplemental program based on music and games offered to 4th and 5th graders who are in band (brass, woodwinds, and percussion) and orchestra (string instruments).It will take what they are doing with the band director, emphasize the lessons, provide practice time, and make practice fun! There will be at least two performances — one for the school and one for the parents. Evan Pollack has been teaching music in Northern VA for twenty-seven years and has been at Glebe for the past ten.

Ms. Delmare’s Co-Ed Run Club

Grades: K-2

This running club is for grades K-2 and will help students develop a love for running and healthy living through group exercises and interactive running activities. During each session, students will engage in running activities, participate in appropriate stretching (warm ups and cool downs) and also gain an understanding of the overall positive health benefits of running.  

Fee:  $100

Engineering & Building

Grades: K-2

Building and Engineering Fun is an excellent hands-on activity based STEM curriculum. Students learn basic concepts about Energy, Light, Motion and more.  Hand on activities engage kids in Aerodynamics, Solar Energy, Stable Building Structures, Bridge Design and more. This class does not use games to engage kids in engineering/ science concepts. Students learn thinking and reasoning skills needed for success. Engineering Fun encourages children to apply what they know about science and math through hands-on activities that are based on real-world technologies and problems, helping them see how disciplines like math and science are relevant to their lives.

Fee:  $185

American Sign Language

Grades: 2-5 

The American Sign Language (ASL) Club is for students to learn about the deaf culture and how to communicate in American Sign Language. Some of the lessons will include: alphabet, numbers, days of the week, common phrases/sayings, food, animals, and many more! During the club, we will be able to practice using the various signs through games and group activities.
